Uncheck Bloatwares with UNCHECKY!

Ever installed free software in your machine? This usually happens in Windows base Installer where the software will be installed by clicking “Next -> Next -> Next -> Install -> Finish”. Normal users will do it quick enough until they do not actually see for what reason are they clicking the “Next” button for. It’s not their fault (not totally) but this is where the other party takes advantage. Since you are not checking what you are clicking next for, they include some other “additional packages” along with the software that you are installing. So what happen once you installed the software? When you open your browser, it will be like below. Then all of the sudden your homepage changed to some odd looking Chinese Google Like Website. Your searches are going in a search engine that you never ever used in your life.

Bloated Browser with Bloat Wares

Example of Bloat Wares (Not Harmful, But Unnecessary)

Ever faced this problem? Believe it or not, I have seen people where their browser is almost closing half of their browsing screen. That much of bloatwares been installed without him/her knowing it. Well bloatwares are not bad (some of them are). But bloat ware is something that will bloat your PC processing power to process something unnecessary that you will not be using. Thus this will slow down your PC. Well you might as well say, “It’s okay I can just uninstall it if I installed it”. Believe me guys, uninstalling this bloatwares are not easy. There will be residual pieces of the software in your machine even after you uninstalled it. So what are the ways to avoid installing unnecessary bloats wares in your PC and congest it?

Point 1: See What You Are Clicking!

Well the first way is simple. When you are installing something, read every page before you press the “Next” button. This is essential where actually the 3rd party bloat ware guys are not that mean. They do give us choice to uncheck the installation of the bloat ware. But then again as I said earlier, no one actually read the page before clicking next. Now it’s the users fault. So this is the first step. See what you are installing!

Point 2: Always Choose Custom InstallationNormally, there will be options for the user to actually choose what type of installation they want to perform. Is it the default or customized. Usually in most cases, users will choose the default installation as they don’t have to change any settings of the installation like installation location, file name and such. This is where the bloat wares will be hiding. Usually in Default Installation it will bundle up a few bloat wares and installs it together. So you do not have control over it. On the other hand, custom installation is giving you a certain control on what to be installed, where and such. So by choosing custom installation you can see the breakdown of the software and uncheck the unwanted bloatwares from the installation and install a clean fresh software that you wanted.

Point 3: Use an Awesome Tool Called “UNCHECKY”

Both of the method we saw above is manual. This means users have to manually see and uncheck what they want and don’t want. Wouldn’t it be great if there is a software that can identify bloat wares and uncheck the box for us while we can just click “Next->Next->Next->Install”. Well there is. The tool is called “Unchecky”. It is a very small tool (no bloatwares, I have already checked) that will uncheck any bloatwares precompiled in the software installer. So you just install this software in your machine and it will be triggered whenever you are trying to install something. This tool is very easy to use and does not require any technical knowledge or any tutorial. So anybody can install and use it. And YES IT’S FREE!

Conclusion

Well this is a small tip I thought worth sharing as it is effecting our daily life in using PCs. Well who would like a browser filled with toolbar that God Knows How It Came There. Now you know where it all come from. So now you will install your software carefully or to be care free you can use Unchecky. They will always update their tool to pick up new bloatwares available but it is also advised you take a look while using Unchecky if it really does unchecks the bloat wares. For me, it worked great for a few software and I’m starting to trust it. You got any other tip in avoiding bloat wares or clean software installation process? Do share with me in the comment section below. Share this post if you think it’s useful. Take care. Until my next post!
